Happy Hour / The things you see at night!!
« on: July 17, 2017, 09:14:48 AM »
G'day all,
I take our Lab , Jackson, for his wander every  night to empty out before retiring , we were down the block near our  Cherry sticks (trees ) & I had left my Broad fork just up from there, standing in the ground where I am digging up for a couple of Black Genoa figs. I normally put these tools away but when it started to rain I just speared it in the ground intending to return later to finish the job  & forgot. Well When I shone the torch on the fork handles there was this magnificent Tawney Frogmouth (better known as a Boo Book owl) Perched on one of the handles staring back at us.I always see critters at night but rarely any bird-life.

Ellie, my wife & I came home from the Local food producers network meeting last night after a long brain storming session,   The main question being  how we as a group can increase public awareness as to the quality, seasonality & freshness of our local food production. It amused me no end that most  people have no idea as to what is growing & when, & if different fruits & vegetables  will be available  . One producer told us of being abused in winter for not having any corn available. Have these Huge  supermarkets removed our awareness of seasonality by providing these out of season fruits Etc all year round from anywhere on the globe?. The other thing that came out was the average age of producers in our area is 56 years old. I don't know if there will be a global food shortage or not however we all agreed  that unless we can get the younger ones growing, the future does not look so bright. What is your personal & collective opinions?
                                                                                                    Regards Pete

The Range / Dock / Any suggestions for a quiet air rifle?
« on: September 26, 2016, 05:02:48 PM »
I have a problem with "flying Rats" that is Mynor birds that destroy & crap on everything, as well as being professional break in artists for garages & sheds etc. Could any member suggest a low noise air rifle that may be available in Australia. Thanks
