Mr Crazyhorse ,
It is truly a  simple thing to do & you don't even need to cook them in a cast iron dutch oven or Bedouri oven .I have cooked damper in the coals & ashes of a campfire wrapped in alfoil  , molded onto a green stick in thin strips & toasted similar to your Marshmallows, even sandwiched between hot rocks that have been in the fire& surrounded by hot coals, You can even cook it in an electric oven but it misses the smoky fire flavor wise. The big trick is to need your damper  properly so it is not crumbly but like a bread dough. Have a strong black Billy tea to drink , fresh churned Butter & some cocky's joy to spread on the damper  & you will be blessed.

G'day Tangentalstorm,
A damper is like an olde timers bushman's   bread made without any yeast for leavening, it is made with strong Bread  flour, baking powder, a knob of butter,  pinch of salt this is rubbed together to mix the dry ingredients ,then you add a cup of beer or Dark rum for adults-depending on the flavor profile for the moisture( you can use just spring water if you don't want the grog  flavor if its for kids) Sometimes  I also use onion,Garlic, parsley Chilli, cheese sun dried tomato or anything that I think will complement the main dish it goes with ,My grand kids like my plain damper as a main meal Cooked in a cast Iron  dutch oven on a trivet to stop it burning to a  crisp if you get your timing wrong with too big a pile of coals. When you take it out of the Dutch oven Tap on the base And if it sounds hollow then it is good to go , cut it up, smear on your butter & add some cocky s joy ( Golden Syrup} for a delicious alternative. If .you burn the crust just peal off the black crust if you have a whoops moment the inside will still be OK
  Regards Pete

G'day Guys,
Sorry to cause such confusion  with  the Northern Brotherhood but it is just how we talk down here. I believe we eat normally it just sounds  funny & anyway it  keep us amused  as Rural Tassie is a long way from civilization. Buy the way ,It has not been proven, however, Don't leave a used  Match stick or toothpick lying around as Chiggers are cunning little buggers may be able to pole vault.

G'day Guys,
Tonight we had a Pork Minestrone soup with a chilli & cheese damper, washed down with a sugar free Creaming Soda. I just took 1,5 Kg of my spiced bourbon Jerky out of the sunbeam drier which will add a bit of extra  flavor to the pear & apple cider I intend to take to the farmers market meeting tomorrow night.

G'day KSP,
It most certainly is a small world ,Now ,& getting smaller with technology , Launceston (Lonnie, as we call it) is about 450 klms North from us here in the Huon Valley , another 60 klms or so  south  is where Tassie finishes & the next stop becomes Antarctica.

I now have a very happy New Hampshire  Rooster who is now King of the roost. This was done because the others  were getting a bit much for the Girls. So I guess I am eating Chook for my protein source for a while.
