Latest Project Completed
« on: December 05, 2016, 09:55:18 AM »
USPS delivered my handguard on Saturday instead of the scheduled Monday so I was able to finish my build last weekend. Aero Precision lower, upper, and handguard, 8.5" 300BLK barrel from TR Enabling, and Trijicon MRO scope. Now if the rain stops I'll load up a couple magazines and give it a test run.

I haven't put it on a scale, but I'll do that this afternoon after work. You peaked my curiosity.  ;)

I 'd be interested in the stats compared to a 16" barrel! I still have to mill my lower but I did find a 16" 1:9 Stoner at the right price. Can't wait to hear how it does!

Looks great Lane.  That barrel looks longer than 8.5".  Does it have a longer suppressor on the barrel end?

Nice weapon to have in a close order drill.   ;D

tbird: the barrel is 8.5" but has a muzzlebreak break on it that the suppressor threads onto. The handguard is 1/2" longer than the barrel, but the muzzlebreak stick past.

Maggie13: 6lbs 4oz total weight with no magazine.

1shotwade: the 8.5" upper that has a 9" keymod handguard with sight is 3lbs 14oz and my 16" barrel that has a 9" quadrail handguard with no sight is 4lbs 9oz.

Mudhog,I just got my stoner 16" complete upper.I thought it was a bit heavy so I put it on the scale. It rang up 4lb 1 oz.! I was surprised to see it come in 8 oz less than yours.I was also surprised that it felt as heavy as it does. I'm going to have to blame that on my age! I know for a fact the chainsaw I bought 20 years ago is twice the weight it started out being!

I picked up another AR15 at auction. Half price of new. It's made by R-GUN. Know anything about them? Produced in ILL>Seems like a tight well-fitted gun.Haven't gotten to the range with it yet though.

I don't own one, but a quick Google search on the name pulled up a quite a few bad reviews. I would do this, look on the upper and lower for forging marks. If you find a mark, look up who the forger is. If no marks, then it is very likely an overseas forger and I wouldn't get to excited about running a lot of rounds through it. Below is a list that I have used for reference.

Upper receiver forge markings:

Offset Square is: Brass Aluminum Forging
LMT is: No Forge Marks, but marked LMT or L is: LMT
AF is: Alcoa Forge
C AF is: Colt Alco Forge
A (splintered) = Anchor Harvey Aluminum
C MB is: Colt / Mueller Brass
Cardinalís head (stylized bird head) is: Cardinal Forge
CH is: Colt Harvey Aluminum
Crosshairs w/"AR" is: ArmaLite
CK is: Colt / Kaiser Aluminum
CM is: Colt / Martin Marietta
D (stylized) is: Diemaco
DK is: Diemaco / Kaiser Aluminum
E is: Emco
EK is: EMCO/Kaiser
E MB is: EMCO/Mueller Brass
FA is: FNMI / Anchor Harvey
FK is: FNMI / Kaiser Aluminum
FM is: FN/Martin Marietta
FMB is: FNMI / Mueller Brass
LK is: LAR / Kaiser Aluminum
LM is: LAR / Martin Marietta
M "diamond" is: Mueller Industries
PA is: Capco / Anchor Harvey
PM is: Capco / Martin Marietta
Square (symbol) is: Brass Aluminum
Keyhole is: Cerro

The upper has the "keyhole" but I can't find any info on google. I'm not good on a computer. The only markings on the lower appear to  be r-gun.No forge marks I have found.

The Keyhole is Cerro and is good. Anderson uses Cerro for example. I've also received Keyhole uppers from Daytona Tactical out of Florida. Your lower with no marking is concerning though as you don't know where the forging came from (quality of the forging is unknown). I wouldn't plan to run a lot of rounds through it and let it be a safe queen. You can buy Anderson stripped lowers for $55 each. Wouldn't be a bad deal to get a stripped lower and then swap the lower parts. Then just keep the unknown stripped lower in the safe.

Thanks! I did get ahold of r-guns. Everything they make is supposed to be mi. spec. so  that's a good sign but I'm not convinced they are going to be a source of reliable information.I gave the model number only to find that's a universal number they use for everyar15.When I ask how to track down the unit I have I was told to get on the web site and look at pictures.
I'll get this out to the range and if I like it It'll be here and parts swapped out as needed since it's pretty clear I won't get much help from the manif.
