i could go nuts in there gopher. so much stuff i could re-purpose.  i did find another roll of 3' wire that looked like new but the guy said the roll was already promised to the other guy's sister.  he said the guy's sister gets all the good stuff.  the guy who helped us said he used to get to buy the antique farm stuff/metal cans/misc stuff that came in but the guy's sister opened an antique store and he can't get good stuff anymore either.

it was pretty cool to get to go inside and peek around. if it was made of metal, it was pretty much there.  piles as high as a 4 story building in the back of the scrap yard.  there were smaller piles all over the place on both sides of the road/path with some of the more useful stuff or by type of metal.  the guy i got was real nice and even helped hub and i load the giant coil of wire into the car.  i was grateful since the thing weighed in at a little over a hundred pounds when he weighed it and i was pretty sure my thumb would have split back open if i had to lift it.

I like to hear those good deals.
Mrs Chip, Congratulation on the concrete wire.
I have been looking for  a roll of concrete wire for mater cages but no luck yet.

I took  several bags of drink cans (Diet Pepsi) to the local scrap yard and saw a plastic cart , no wheels, some one had just threw away, I asked what would he take , he said I could have it for free.

I brought it home, had 4 = 3"  swivel wheels , put them on , cleaned it up, now have another tool cart for the garage ( 10 total).

went to an estate auction yesterday.  got a light up reindeer (cool older one with actual plexi in the body and a steel rod frame), about 10 pieces of glass bakeware, about 30 pains of old clip on earrings for the little one to play with and a hurricane lamp.  grand total 30 bucks.

they were doing the farm equipment at 3pm.  i had to be at the school to get the little one then, so i figure fate must have aligned that to save me from having to be tempted to buy the old tractor that was there.   would have been tough explaining that one to the hub.  lol.

was on craigslist yesterday afternoon when i saw one of the older rectangle, glass top 4-seater patio tables (with the umbrella hole) for free about 15 minutes from me.  i called the guy and he said sure come and get it.  (i told him i was going to use it in the yard to start seeds on and we chatted about gardening). it was a rental house he just finished and the tenant moving in did not want it in the yard.  it was in good shape.   he was really nice and we chatted about gardening for about another 15 minutes until the random drop of rain came down on me.

as the base of the table had 1 leg sticking out my rear passenger window i high tailed it home.  i got VERY nervous when it started to thunder as i was driving home with a piece of metal hanging out the window which was pretty much forming a cage around my 4 year old sitting indian style in her booster in the back seat.  luckily we made it home safely and just in time to have the skies open and downpour.

i put the table back together this morning and put the container of lettuce on it for now.  now i just have to watch for some chairs  :)

I hit it big at dirt cheap again! Everything in the picture pluse was a shopping cart full for 10 dollars. Some stuff I will never use but turn buckles and eyelets and other stuff was perfect for the GH. I had gone in hoping to find the same stuff I had picked up last time. I did and more. There was still 3 baskets for me to sort through when I took this pic.
Long story Short I made my mater hanging stuff for 10 bucks and if I would have had to buy it for regular price would have been well over 300! And still have gobbs of them left over!

Then just left again cuz were in Lafayette and picked up 2 totes for the GH watering system!

not sure if any of you live by an aldi, but their 'special buys' this week are all about gardening.  they had some beautiful hanging basket racks and railing mount flower boxes for under 10 bucks!  they also had a pack of the green, hard plastic tomato stakes for like 3.99!  that is cheaper than the big box stores!   shepard hooks for 4.99!

about 2 weeks ago i was at the super dollar tree.  i picked up 2 packs of hyacinth bulbs.  there were 6 bulbs in each pack.  i put them in the raised bed outside the well house.  guess what!  all but 1 came up!  not bad for 2.00!

i was on craigslist today and saw someone giving away a little greenhouse they made out of pallets.  i am too far from where they were, but it looked like something i could do just for starting plants in the early spring.  i was thinking of putting it on some wheels and that way i can move it out to the tree line in the shade or such.

now i am on the hunt for pallets  :)

Chip do you have a "Big Lots" in your area?  Last spring when they were selling off their garden stuff they had those small gh's for around $30. My mom uses one of those every year when she buys maters an pepper plants.  She repots them into 3" pots an by planting time they are well on their way.  Much lighter than those pallets but also much smaller.  Like you I am I to reuse repurpose an the pallet gh looks pretty cool but it will be heavy to move around.

hi gopher

yes, i have one about 30 minutes away.  i will have to look out for that!  i always worry about those little gh since the last one i saw was that crap thin tubing.  that would not last a week in my yard.  we are on a corner and we get the wind pretty good across the yard.  if it is sturdy then i would be all over a prefab gh.

yesterday hub was off and we picked up the little one from school.  we took her to the local library.  they were having a spring book sale.  they had an entire cart of kids books that they pulled from their shelves and were selling off for get this....

ten cents a book!  yes, 0.10 usd per book!

they were really nice hard cover books.  we ended up buying 30 books!  where are you gonna get 30 books for 3.00?  amazing!

now the little one is all set for her summer reading.   :)   she loves to read and has already started a couple of the books.

Chip my moms gh's are tied down when outside an pretty well protected on the east an north sides but she turns $1.88 / 6 pack of plants into monsters before they are planted in the garden.  If wind will be a problem then your pallet gh might be a good thing.
