Lower Prices on Firearms?
« on: January 17, 2017, 05:12:50 PM »
With the coming change in Washington DC this Friday,  I wonder if it is going to help decrease the price of firearms and the associated items like ammo, optics, reloading, etc.  One of the main reasons firearms related prices went sky high was the constant and incessant attacks on firearm ownership by the previous 8 year occupant of the White House and the dems that backed him.  Now the incoming occupant doesn't seem too hot to trot on changing Constitutional amendments.  This I feel will remove a lot of the high price hikes fueled by panic buying in response to threats by the government to outlaw particular firearms and the attachments associated with those class of guns.

I look forward to at least 4 years of not having to worry about irrational attacks on my rights and my particular choice of hobbies.   ;)

I have serious doubts that many firearm prices will go down. When the price of anything other than a commodity goes up it is seldom they go back down. People get used to paying an amount for something and there seems to be no need for the manufacturers to reduce the prices. That said, the assault on assault rifles (black rifles) should be over for the foreseeable future and they should probably go down or at least level out.

My hope is that ammunition of all types (rifle, pistol and shotgun) will go down in price and up in availability. Match rifle ammo has been out of site and hard to get for a long time. The shotgun shells that I shoot in competition have been beyond scarce too. Hopefully the panic buyers have enough rounds rotting away in their closets and can take a break where the regular people that like to shoot can afford to buy some ammo again.

I was an FFl Firearms Dealer when that goof ball Purdy went into that school yard in CA with a AKS and a 75 Rd. drum clip to kill innocent kids.  At that time I was paying $268 each for a Polytech AKS-762.  As soon as George Bush Sr. created the "Assault Weapons" ban the Polytech AKS went to over $1600 along with others assault rifles climbing sky high.  Most handguns and non-assault weapon designs took about a 15% hike.  For a few years prives stayed high but moderated about 50% back to the $800 range.  Even under Clinton's anti-gun FBI and DOJ prices held around there.  When George W Bush took office the prices moderated again another 50% or so and AKs came into the $300 range.  ARs stayed a bit higher but only because popularity of that particular weapon had increased to mainstream interest.  Now Obama's policies and statements have driven forearms prices high under his constant threats to outlaw certain weapons and restrict further ALL weapons.  This has held prices high with some moderation decent between threats and actions.

Now with the new administration and a (R) Senate as well as House,  the threats will subside for a while and when the panic buyers stop their pressure on the market and a more fair market will take over.   Also it is worth noting that Barack Obama, despite his anti-gum stance, was a holder of large amounts of Firearms Co. and Ammunition Co. stocks.  It was very favorable to his finances when panic buying drove up prices.  This I think had a lot to do with his "sabre" rattling and ranting on guns.

In conclusion,  unless the firearms mfgs. and the parts mfgs. cut production amid a reduction in impulse purchases the prices should moderate.  They did under the anti-gun attitude and policies of Bill Clinton and I suspect they will under Donald Trump.  Let's see.   ;)

Just a quick observation,I bought an AR a month ago at auction for $400. I thought that was a good deal.Last week Anderson had an AR new for $479.That too sounds like a great deal.
On another note it's been however many years since I could get 22lr but my mother found some at wallyworld for $10 per 100 back in the spring. I finally found it there(same ammo) last week for $7.92 a box.
It looks like the prices may be slipping down already which I didn't expect.

HERE: "black guns" slipping just a little downward in price proves slow sales w/flooded market, especially bottom level entries...

ammo...the very week after the election, ammo showed up by the pallets! .22, 5.56, 9mm, 40s&w, .45 and have since showed slowly dropping prices...amazing, even wally worlds shelves are full....starting to see match ammo again, especially .22...

the next 4yrs should prove plentiful...take advantage of it and get what you didn't last go 'round...

my rule...5,000 rds of ammo per caliber/gauge ain't crap...

Hottest item this week is Sig P320's with the Army "M17" contract announcement....everybody wants to say yeah I got one, and the gunshop prices this week reflect that...glad we got two sometime back...the P320 is a fine shooting pistol...

satisfaction is witnessing the scum bags that sat at every wally world 7a.m. mornings the last 4yrs buying everything that hit the shelves and attempt to resale double at gunshows and flea markets having to sale at $1-2 BELOW what they paid this past week at the local gunshow on the last day to recoup some money! KARMA...!!! LMAO!

just because you can tell me the physical properties of your shoe laces doesn't mean you have the common sense to tie them...

Cub, I done went and got serious about reloading! It would be impossible to rid the country of guns at this point so, at some place in the future, I anticipate another lib in the Whitehouse that will make it all but impossible to get ammo or components for ammo. After the last 8 years, I will no longer put any trust or faith in our government again, especially after witnessing the current power DHS has.I think they could go rogue at any moment.

I'm jumping in on this a little late.  Here in GA, we have a very active swap/sell forum at http://www.theoutdoorstrader.com .  In the last couple of months, people have just stopped buying at the same prices they were before that.  For something to move, it has to be a pretty good deal.  It's pretty common to see sub $500 AR's and I've even seen $450 Glocks that wouldn't sell.  There is a steals/deals section and there's been more than one retailer with S&W AR-15's for $500, plus off brand ones under $400.  The market is flooded and now no one feels pressured to buy one because they don't think the current administration has eyes on their guns.

I think ATI rifles have plastic lowers.  I personally avoid those in an AR.
