1940 gardening video
« on: June 23, 2017, 04:50:08 PM »
This is a video about a young brother and sister who start a backyard garden and follows them all the way through harvest.

I have watched it twice now...I love these old videos!  I am still trying to figure out what the narrator said about the potato beetles.  I think he said the kid sprayed with lead based something!

Thanks for the link Chip! It's neat to watch how different things were back then. The proper dress and the way the speaking was different .

I enjoyed the video, in 1942 I started the 1st grade and memorized my first reader--Dick and Jane-- Father always wore a suit and we never did know where Father worked. One thing remembered from way back there was ordering some garden seed to resale, sold just about enough to make a very small profit, but thought I had really done something. I will say though  the seed sales turned out better than the religious wall plaques I  ordered  off the radio from Del Rio Texas. Thanks for the video, it got me to remembering some good days even with the war going on.

thanks lou!  i think you are right!  i checked the net for that term and it was in the old insecticides.  the wiki says it was banned in 1988.

wow.  i would not think you would want to spray lead ANYTHING on your food.
