U of Texas is an extremely far left university-(ha, aren't they all, now?), so that does not surprise me at all. I hear Geo. Washington is soon to be the next on the chopping block all around the country. Circling the drain!!!

G'day Ben,
I can't understand taking down statues , it's not like you are going to change the past. Just what exactly do they think it is going to achieve ?.
 Regards Pete

Hi Pete You pose a very hard question to answer.  It is a change in our society.  If you are 1 in 100 that don't like something then complain that you are mentally harmed by something or your rights are being affected and protest and take it to court.  The courts will back you even to the appeals courts.

For example the confederate flag.  You can not buy a confederate flag on EBay but you can buy the ISSI flag.  Does this make sense.?

Pete anything goes.  Don't know whether you have heard the latest, but now the University of California horse mascot is under fire because it's name is similar to Robert E Lee's horse's name.  How ridiculous can you get?

Another example is bathrooms.  I know what bathroom to go to but what about the woman that wakes up one morning and decides to be a man for the day.  Or worse yet my wife goes to the bathroom and some creep decides to be a woman for that day.

Now, if that is not enough, I saw  photo of  some of our congressmen would not even stand and put their hands over their heart for our National Anthem.  Bad enough for our athletes most less OUR CONGRESSMEN.

I love the forum, so I better quite now before Donald kicks me off.

G'day Ben ,
Thanks for the reply, I suppose that I am old school in attitude & understanding & believe we should live for today, Dream of tomorrow , & Learn from Yesterday. It requires thought, Not Feelings. What is happening if I get what you say is  people are now so wrapped up in the rights of the individual ,who changes their feelings as they change their underwear & that the rights of the community is usurped  to appeased their shortcomings.

The biggest problem is these snowflake idiots don't know anything about our history.

The truth is that  only about  6% of Southerners OWNED slaves so tell me what was the motivation behind the other 94%?

The South's two main reasons for fighting was for a just cause which was against a unrepresentative government tax that was killing their economy  and the denial of their state rights.

The Morrill Tariff was passed by the U.S. Congress and signed into law by President James Buchanan on March 2, 1861, two days before Abraham Lincoln was inaugurated.

The Tariff favored industries based in the northeast and  penalize the southern states, which were more dependent on goods imported from Europe by significantly raising the rates on goods they exported and it made  changes in how duties were assessed on goods entering the country.

Following the withdrawal the only way the Union could collect these taxes was to take it by force. Since the North invade the south the Southerners had no choice but to defend themselves. They fought hard and with HONOR.

After gaining a horrible reputation Lincoln tried to pin the whole thing on slavery when in reality it had nothing to do with the the decision to invade the south.
Follow the money.....

600,000 men died.
38 U.S. Code, Sec. 2306 made all civil war soldiers "Veterans"

Maggie....Thanks for the truth. People who care to know the TRUE history of the causes of the Civil War know these things, but most just soak up what they have been spoon fed. They are still just soaking up the fake news about EVERYTHING. So easy for them that way----no reading, no research, no analysis, not one brain cell needed just to drink the Kool-Aid in this country. Socialist Manifest=destroy the family, all traditions, religion, and a nations history. Obviously they are making great strides. The lazy, snowflakes are going to pay a HUGE price---if they would get off drugs, they might be able to see what is the truth for a change!

Ha, me either, Maggie. But could it be that people have remained quiet for so long that we are in the state we are in? I believe so!

G'day Guys,
In Southern Tassie we know very little of The true  American History, However we do know A balanced approach to all things makes All things possible . You can not hide from the truth ,&  as the Good Lord Said , Things done in the darkness will be seen in the light of day!. So, just as General  Eisenhower said when the first Concentration camp was liberated from the Nazis,  Get it down on film & document everything Because some Bas"" "" "" :: will try to deny it happened sometime in the future.
