« on: September 11, 2017, 09:28:24 AM »
your truly, Lane Romero.  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Went up to Woodworth LA last Saturday for the Award Luncheon where they presented me a plaque. I was nominated for the award for having started Shooting Sports here in Iberia Parish 3 years ago.

Just thought I share this accomplishment with you guys.

That is fantastic Lane. Congratulations!! Giving back is wonderful but doing it with kids is even better.

Because of our shooting sports 4H program, our little town now has the largest 4H program in the state of Texas. I hope yours grows that way too.

A well deserved Congratulations to you Lane.

I met possibly one of your neighbors a few days ago at a Katahdin Sheep Association meeting.  They were from Country Oak Ranch in New Iberia but I'm not sure that is the same location as you.

Thanks guys.

Ironically I was never involved in 4-H during grade school. I honestly didn't even know about it until I met some friends and started going to the 4-H pig shows in Welsh, LA with them. I found out about the Shooting Sports program by accident and then found that we didn't have Shooting Sports in Iberia Parish. I started working with our agent at the time and we managed to get it going. Had 90something kids register our first year and 70something showed up for the first practice. We've since averaged 78 kids each year in the program. Our agent even found paperwork that showed Shooting Sports was trying to get started in Iberia Parish back in 1998 (year I graduated). They just couldn't get enough volunteers to help get it going.

I know of them, but don't know them personally. Their place is about 4-5 miles to my Southwest which is just North of Delcambre LA.

I was not in 4-H but my husband was.
He says he has many fond memories of the people that mentored him and the Beet he grew one year that won him a blue ribbon at the Altamont Fair.
