I'm not sure what real corn bread means but I made it from scratch in cast iron to go with gumbo tonight so I'm calling it real cornbread too! ;)

Mrs Knyquol, Mr wife makes real cornbread using  just self rising cornmeal mixed with sweet milk or butter milk or water.

Your choice of grease for the cast iron pan.
Put in the oven , bake at 400* to 500* until done to suit you.

That is all.

We eat a lot of cornbread , some  very thin, (mostly crust) ,  some  as thick as 3", depending what we are eating with the cornbread.
Some times we like the crust ALMOST burned, some times just very light brown.
Sometimes I like a very thin , hot piece of cornbread sliced with a little butter , ( now I use healthy butter  ;D )

Boiled too many crawfish so we had crawfish quesadillas.

They were outstanding. I guess there is a first time for everything  ;D

I made home made spaghetti sauce with meatballs  Saturday afternoon. The meatballs  are made with bread crumbs  so they are soft without being mushy. Leftovers tonight were most welcomed after a busy day on the farm :)
