Pulled some green onions to have on our baked potatoes. I had planned to plant them in the garden but it is much too wet for that so they will stay in the container. I planted them from seed back in October and they sure are tasty :)

Randy came by and ate gumbo. We went outside and worked a little bit on the GH. It was 78 in there today even with the back not finished yet. Next few days I think we gonna have done. !!!

Checked on my late planted mustard greens.  I fertilized before the recent rain, and with the sunny days predicted for this week, they should really move along.  I need to thin again, and I'll use the "thinnings" to add some bite to dinnertime salads.  When it's time to plant tomatoes, I'll till the greens in and hope they help with nematode control.

Picked a mess of mustard greens for supper.  My broccoli and cabbage is doing well under the grow lights. Hope to start hardening then this weekend.

Going back to using my garden tractor this year. Made some trial runs setting up plows for laying off rows---depth, width, etc.

I transplanted 6 Calabrese broccoli.  It may be a little too early but they were getting leggy.  I have some Premium crop to put out next week.  I started some pak choi seeds.  My Amazing cauliflower has never been happy and wasn't going to do anything so it went in the compost bin.  I set up 4 buckets in the GH for tomatoes.  I'm going to try the deep water culture method for the first time.  The plants are 4 different short early Russian varieties that I can't pronounce, let alone spell.
Try and you might, don't and you won't.

Saturday I had a big day planned at the farmstead.  However, the previous days rain changed that.  I wanted to start my chicken coop, till some small sections and plant some peas but nope.  It was way to wet.

My onions from seeds were still too small so I ordered some from Dixondale Farms (Candies, Red Candies, and Red Creole).  I got another 4x20 raised bed made and planted 2 rows on the outer 1.5 feet of the bed so a total of 4 rows.  They kind of gave me a lot of the Candies (82) and Red Candies (80 something), these went into the new raised bed.  The Red Creoles went into an existing bed and forgot to count them.  If all of them make it, I should have plenty of onions this year.  Next year I'll do better with planting onion seeds indoor, in trays, and plant the whole packet of seeds.  I kind of lost track of them in the raised beds among the broccoli, mustard, collards, and cabbage.

Down the middle of the new raised bed I planted some transplants of kale and swiss chard.  In march, I'll probably replace the kale and swiss chard with a row of tomatoes.

I made a pretty good mixture of dirt for the new raised bed, including top soil (has some sand), compost, rabbit manure (first time using), vermiculite (ran out), vermicompost, rock dust, boogie brew.

After making a scientific analysis of a mud ball from the middle of the garden along with a cold south wind the decision to leave the tractor in the shed seemed practical.

Amen Mr. Monroe,

I put on my muck boots and strolled around in my weed patch (previously a garden). I have several nice heads of cabbage ready for harvest, a few collards, several small cauliflower trying to grow and a dozen or so carrots that survived the flood.

The battery on my tractor is five years old and dead so I pulled it out and will go get a new one in eager anticipation of being able to use it one day ;)

Hello,

I saw this topic and wanted to register and respond. :)

What did I do in the garden today... I walked out and stared at the 6" of snow that's covering my garden.

It's been crazy cold this winter here in Colorado.

I got the bug though. I ordered my seeds for this year:

Beef steak tomatoes
Bush beans
Pickling cucumbers (for bread and butter pickles)
Bell peppers
Cantaloupe
Watermelon
Zucchini
Crookneck squash
Carrots

Lettuce (indoors)

I broke up the acre plot.  I tilled it with the Mohawk and hipped up.  I mixed Galagan and generic roundup and sprayed the rows to serve as a preemergent.  I then planted all my DD transplants.  I would up with 3 long rows.  Soon be getting ready for taters.
