heirloom beafstakes?
« on: February 29, 2016, 02:27:32 PM »
I sure could use some if anyone has them. The ones with the rough appearance, you know, not smooth like big boy or Rutgers etc.I lost mine but once grew one 3 lb 7 ounces totally by accident. Like to do that again. Great tasting maters too. (I'll sign a waiver that stated my entry for largest tomato is disqualified!)Ha!
Thanks y'all,
Wade

If you want tomato seeds to grow big maters go here and look through the tomato seed list.  Good guy to deal with.

If you have extra that would be great! Just a dozen or so would be fine. I WILL save seed from them.
PM me your address and I'll send you a SASE.
Thank you so much!

Hey Wade, thought you might be interested in the History of the "Beef Steak" Tomato. there are a Million Beef Steak Tomatos, but this is the original .
The worlds biggest tomato is a Beefsteak Cross, Mini Zaccaria used 2 Beefsteak to get her "Big Zac"

I am also a big fan of Beefsteak, maters :)    good luck,  that web site that   (tbird) posted is a good site, I have also bought seeds from Dale. good guy.

History

Also known as Henderson's Crimson Cushion, Red Ponderosa, or Beefsteak.
Introduced by Peter Henderson in 1894, this is the original strain of Red Beefsteak.
Click here to view the Henderson 1894 catalog page scan at Crail LeHoullier's web site
PI 644743. Donated to USDA in 1961.
    USDA Narrative:

"95 days, (beefsteak or red ponderosa) fruit verly large, flattened, rather irregular, vine indeterminate. Northrup, King & Co. catalog GS-7-5"

Same as

    Red Ponderosa
    Beefsteak
    Henderson's Crimson Cushion
