Got a new ewe
« on: April 18, 2017, 07:01:38 PM »
Hoping not to jinx myself but now that we know enough about sheep to at least know where to go for answers,  we are ready to start upgrading.  We want a bigger sized sheep and we also want some color.  There is a farm about 1 1/2 hours from us that has some outstanding lines and we got this pregnant ewe last week.  We also bought ourselves a 4 year old Katahdin ram that we will bring home in the next couple of weeks.

This girl is due to lamb possibly as early as 10 days from now and looks to at least be carrying twins.  We are keeping her away from the rest of the flock till she lambs and her lamb(s) get some size on them before merging with the others.  The lamb in the picture is our #3 lamb born the 21st of December and just shy of 70 lbs now.

I wish you all the best as you branch out to improve your flock.

Will the ewe throw black and white lambs or is the another color in the mix?

She is a mix of black and brown and white so it could be anything.  Colors are usually dominant for a couple of generations anyway.  We are hoping for a ram lamb out of this one.  The sire has the size and pedigree that we would like to have someday.
