Here Sheep
« on: May 14, 2017, 08:06:51 PM »
We have gates on every corner of our six sided fence (This pen is in an L shape) and let the sheep out into a different paddock every 5 or 6 days.  They love the new salad bar and come running as soon as I call out "Here Sheep".  I need to do a video but these two pictures shows their action in getting there.   There was only about 10 seconds between the two pictures.   :)

I had to giggle when I saw that they responded  by running to your call.

That is faster than my male BC responds.. He acts like he is being punished when it is time to come inside and walks very slowly to savor every second.

Thanks WD - it is still a work in progress but we love it.

Maggie - we originally wanted a couple of sheep to work our dogs with but since they come at my call it's easier to just do that.  We use the dogs for close up work but they don't get nearly as much time in the pen as they would like.

Ben - we needed a farm name when we registered our place and when we were talking about it, we looked out at our sheep on the hill and Shepherds Hill Farm and since we are the shepherds responsible for their care that became the name.

Very appropriate name Mike.  You sure have a beautiful place there.  We in Louisiana would call the hill in the background a mountain.   Our elevation is about 100' in the Red River valley and about 200' in the hills.

Enjoy your post, keep up the good work.  Your flock continues to grow.

We are loving this place Ben.  We are at 1700' and that hill in the picture is at 2400' so we have our steep places to deal with but they are hills compared to some in Tennessee. :)  We start breeding next month so hopefully in about 5 months later we will have more pictures to post.  The last set of twins are growing fast enough that we can add them to the main flock without worrying about our Great Pyrenees using them to play Lamb Polo.

Mikem---We love Tn. !!  From mid state on eastward it is so pretty and just keeps getting more and more beautiful as you go eastward. Here in Maryville, we are in the foothills of the Smokies with views of the distant Smokies all around. After moving from the  flat Ms Delta , I pretty much am blown away ----never gets old. You have a beautiful place there !!

We love it also.  The people are what really makes it even though the views are awesome.
