I too have missed her.  I sent her a PM about 3 weeks ago but have not received any reply.  Her last post was on May 30th and last forum activity was June 20th.

Yes she was very knowledgeable about gardening.  She also worked hard with her garden and fruit trees.

WD please let us know if you get any response from your letter.  I lost her address when the old forum data was deleted.

Not to be morbid, or anything, but, we should all leave a note somewhere for our loved ones to post a notice on our gardening forums, if anything should something happen to us.

Put the website address and your user name in the note, with instructions...

Not good for folks to just fall through the dark hole...  :-[ :-[

Gymgirl.... Owing to my job and the kind of places I tend to go for work I set up sealed envelopes that are kept in my office and in my safe deposit box and has all my forums and email addresses of my online life that are to be notified in case something should happen to me. It almost got used last summer too...(long story)...but having that is indeed a great comfort.

If you make one just be very specific about how you want it done if something happens.

I hope she is OK too.  There is times in everyone's life that changes things.  I lost Mum last September and then we lost Kirk.  It's kinda took the steam out of me.  I keep intouch with a few on the PM's but have slowed down on the forum.  The garden is over grown and really have nothing to talk about.  Mowin everything down.  Hope to have a good garden next year.  Roy

Roy it is always good to see you. I understand what you are saying. My talking is more on this forum than anywhere else, perhaps too much but it is a great help just to talk. I've always enjoyed any of the experiences you shared with us when you was a cop. Being with Jewel's brother way back there gave me some first hand look at a few nights a patrolman can have. I welcome and appreciate the PMs I've received , what a great wonderful group of friends to have. God Bless

she is special to us all, knowing she is OK is mighty good news . Two years ago when I posted a picture of Jewel & me the night we married tutti's reply was that she saw confidence in the two of us. I remember just about every reply she has made to me especially about business. Thank you DB for letting us know that you have seen & talked to our friend Dorothy.

Hello all of you, the great family fine people I'm privileged to belong to.  I had to take time out to have a little cry.  I never imagined I rated one thread, let alone two.

I had a long post on the other thread that went pouff.   It logged me out after a hour but it shouldn't happen again.  I'll try again tomorrow.  It's late, I'm tired and I wanted to read a few threads before bed.

Title: Re: missing forum member
Post by: tuttimato on August 23, 2016, 12:59:45 PM
I think my troubles started around the first week of July.  My modem started intermittently going out.  Then my computer died after dumping everything.  Next there was a lightening strike that killed the modem and my landline phone.  I got another phone just like it off ebay but it appeared to need a new battery.  Nope, that didn't help.  So now I'm waiting on another Ebay phone that should come any day now.

Through all this round about, it's taken countless calls, 2 tech visits, 3 modems and endless aggravation.   The last tech took a phillips screwdriver and stabbed my modem to death.  He got another one from his truck, hooked it up and told me it would be right in about 30 minutes.  The lights all straightened out and it seemed to work fine.  I went outside for an hour or so for chores before dark, came in to find all the modem lights going crazy.  I made a pot of coffee and tried to calm myself for another round with att.  He scheduled another tech visit.  He also said for me to take the 2nd modem to a UPS store or they'd want $150 for not returning it.  I had already had my neighbor return the first one and he lost the receipt.  I have not left this  house since February of 2015 and it was all I could do not to show him some of the rage I have for his company.  I told him his tech destroyed it and took it with him.  Then he said that was bad because sometimes they don't do their accounting properly.  As of last Friday they still hadn't credited my bill with the first one and they sent me an email with return instructions for the one I don't have.   I can see more trouble coming down.

I have one of those indestructible Duramax cell phones that's been recycled from Iraq or Afghanistan.  My tenant next door has me on his plan.   I carry it only for emergency and only my kids have the number.  I almost never call anybody but I've  used it more with this ordeal with att than I've used phones all added together for years.

After I got off the phone that night I sat here staring at that hateful box.  It occurred to me that I never received a new green data cable with these last 2 modems like I have with all the others over the years.  It was the only thing this side of the wall jack that hadn't been replaced.   So I found one in my junk box, swapped it out and it's worked perfectly ever since.  I'm a genius!  Undoubtedly that couldn't have been the whole problem the whole time but I enjoyed calling to cancel yet another tech visit and to say how I fixed it.

I think I'm liking all this attention.  DB's visit was a major big treat so maybe I should plan to go missing again.  I love to talk gardening as y'all well know and he was kind enough not to remark on my magnificent weed collection.

Gardening has been slow.  It's been unmercifully hot or raining and every insect in these parts has been plentiful this year.  I've sprayed til I'm sick of it and can't tell that it's done much good.  Disease was much lighter this year which is a puzzle with all the rain that usually makes it worse.  I got plenty of tomatoes but peppers have under performed.  I planted corn 4 times with the earliest doing best.  The later ones all seemed to poorly pollinate.  Potatoes did my best ever.  Beans were a bust.  I dug my Vardaman sweets about ten days ago.  They look great but I haven't tried them yet.

I have a good stand of snap beans planted last week.  I've got 6 Brussel sprouts, 14 tomato plants ready to set out.  I've got 5 new cuke vines starting to bear.  Out of about 40 seeds, I only got 2 cabbage plants.  I should have fresh seeds coming any day.  I've got 2 cantaloupe and 5 ice box melon plants and high hopes.  It's a start.

I've canned several batches of beef and a big ham.  I hope to can a turkey this week.  All this rain lit my fire as a reminder that it's prime hurricane season and time to get the big ticket items safely into jars.

So that's the highlights of whats been happening here, about as exciting as watching paint dry.  This is the only place I ever post and I've missed you too.  It's good to be back among friends and great to be made to feel so welcome.  I often think I should shut up and just read because, truth be told, I'm out classed as a gardener hanging out with you guys.

I doubt that you are ever outclassed here. We enjoy your post and the sharing of your knowledge. Any of us with no grass or weeds fall into one of two categories: liars or people that just tilled today ;D

Like you, this is the only forum I have ever posted on and enjoy the family of gardeners here. We missed you while you were gone and were deeply concerned about your well being. So happy you are back!!

Tbird and/or tutti,

Do you recall any other information that would help identify Michael Lloyd.  Age, was he located in Louisiana, or where??

Tutti I found a Michael Lloyd in Utah who owns a high dollar photography shop specializing in weddings.

Any additional help would be appreciated as I have found several Michael Lloyds but need to narrow my search.  Several are in state of La. and many outside of state.

I don't recall any information about him.

Thanks

Michael and Mayor both do a lot of traveling for their jobs so maybe life has just been too hectic.  From what I've seen, Mayor could skip gardening for several years and still eat like a king from his stash.

Ahhh... Home sweet home. Apologies for being a slacker and not posting much. I have a home phone number but no phone, just an answering machine. I use my cell phone for two things- communication and irritation. It's irritating because it's far to important :) Anyway, when I got the message asking me to "come back" and I realized that I had not posted here in a long time. The site is up on the bookmark bar so it's one of the "special" sites that's easy to get to. I had to redo the login (Donald just sent an email that explained all that) and I just now got admin approval (disregard my FB message TBird).

Thanks for the kind words about my photographs. Here's a link to a video that I made last month. I had heard the Cattail Falls in Big Bend NP was "falling". Meaning it actually had water flowing rather than trickling. That's a big deal in a desert ecosystem so I started planning a trip. It took 3 weeks for a room in the Basin to come open. When it did I grabbed it and made the 9 hour drive to the park the next day. I got there around 3pm and went straight to the trailhead. I took my 4x5 and DSLR with me. The video was made with the 4x5 (KIDDING). Actually, I set the DSLR up, made some images, and then put it in video mode while I got the 4x5 ready to go. The next morning I hiked back in and shot some more video from a different location. It's at the end and you can tell the difference in water flow after 12-ish hours. Big Bend is very green right now. Very "un-desertlike".

I would like to inquire if anyone has heard from 2 members

The first is AllisCa who was quite active on the forum until October 2016.  Then he just dropped off the radar.  He was a very successful gardener and was dba Poorboyz Produce.  We could still use his vast knowledge and experiences on the forum.

The other one is Mudfish2.  If I recall correctly he lived in Birmingham Al.  Recall him having a 300' cliff in his back yard.   He was a frequent poster on the forum and was usually one of the first to post in the early morning while drinking his morning coffee and reading the morning paper.   Just prior to disappearing on the forum he cut down several large sweet gum trees and planted a lot of blue berry bushes.

Just prior to that he started a topic "  How to keep cats from pooping in his garden"?   I must say that topic grew to about 4 pages with members posting funny and unrealistic methods to keep cats from pooping  his garden.  I hope this was not the reason for his leaving the forum.  If so I apologize         for my post on the subject.

If you have any information on these prior active members please post or PM me.

Thank,

Ben

Hi Rick,

Thanks for the info.  I was just wondering.  The bug running across the screen would be hippie willie.

He logs onto the forum sometimes, but has not posted this year.  It won't be long and I would predict he will post some pictures of his usual great harvest.  He grows some beautiful vegetables.

Hi Bill,  How you are?

I too enjoyed Reartinetiller's post.  He is still active on the forum but just does not post that often.  His last post was in February 2017   His last activity was May 29, 2017.  He evidently is still reading the forum but seldom post.

Come on Reartinetiller we would love to see you posting again, sharing your garden and lifetime experiences.  We miss Mum also.  She always helped you in the garden and seems like y'all always worked together at what ever you were doing.

Bill Take good care of your mother's garden, that garden keeps her going.

Okie Bob is another very sad story.  Bobs wife took her own life an Bobs life will never be the same.   Last I heard was that he is selling out an moving on to a new beginning an since there is only him he has no need to garden.  Many on here considered Bob to be the gold standard of forum friend, but unspeakable events change our lives instantly.

OkieBob update!

I am friends with OkieBob on face book an this morning I see a FB photo of OB with his new bride! I also ask  Bob a couple weeks ago if he might attend the gtg an he said no.  From the caption on the wedding photo his wife was a widow so they have started a new chapter in life.

That's great news Gopher, I hope OB finds peace wherever he is. From reading some of his posts he seems to be very wise in all things gardening.

Woodchip gardener--  Has anyone heard from woodchip gardener.  I have missed her posting.  I checked and the last time she posted was April 20th.  This is very unusual.  She usually makes from 1-3 post nearly every day.

I think what maybe happening is her older daughter was coming home from college and they may be traveling having some prime mother-daughter time together.  Maybe they all decided to go on vacation.  I hope this is the reason.

If you have heard from her please advise.

Ben

I would guess you are right Mr. Ben. I hope everything is alright with Woodchip.

I often also wonder about Digger (Bill) from Florida. He was gardening in woodchips down in Florida and I think he was also raising some of his grandkids. I hope both of these missing members will post soon.

Does anyone know anything about Myers in South Carolina? He was quite a gardener and also very creative in making or adapting things to make gardening easier. I fortunately copied his posting on cutting the pvs pipe on the diagonal and using it as a stand and plant. It was ingenious. I have thought about re posting it to share on the new site. I always enjoyed allisca's posts and he gave me advice on several occasions that was spot on helpful.

there's several names I really miss , pretty often the grass only looks greener on the other side of the fence for a short time, so perhaps the members of the past will come back home.

There I go poking around again in old posts and ran across a member I'm totally unfamiliar with Arms319, he's a Oklahoma State Trooper that was building a high tunnel and apparently was gearing up to have quite an operation with 110 acres. He posted from Jan-Sept. 2016 then nothing since. It appears he got along well with Okie Bob at the time. Anybody know his story?

Ksp313-- Hi, I do not know anything about him or why he quite posting.  He lives about 30 miles north of Okiebob.  His name is Daniel David Arms.  I searched and found his contact information, name, address, and phone number.  I'll be happy to PM you his contact information if you would like.

Perhaps a contact inviting him back would prompt him to become active again.  He seems like a really nice person from all indications.

ksp-- I checked again and could not find another phone number.  I did find a post office box for the Arms Family Homestead.  I spent a lot of time viewing some of his videos.  He has a bunch of them, and they are all good.  Family orientated. He evidently spends a lot of time making videos.  Don't know when he has time to be a State Trooper anymore.  A lot of people down here are cancelling their land line and going to cell phones only.  Some use land line just for 911 purposes and never answer the land line.

How about Boudreaux? I miss his posts and videos and haven't heard from him in a while. Has anyone heard from him or Missy? I am hoping they are alright?

DoubleB-- I spoke with Boudreaux on the phone this afternoon.  With all the rains, and lightning, his computer is down and he is not able to log onto the Bayougardener forum.   He has been peddling  truck loads of sugartown watermelons that keeps him busy.  He will continue this until the are gone and then he will try to get computer back up and running.  He can get on occasionally with his iphone.

When watermelon season is over he will get started on the Cajun gardener fall get together.  It will be at the same place as it was last year.  His back is still giving him a hard time.  He ask his customers to pick out the one they want and please load it themselves due to his back.  Missy is doing fine also.

Hi Rick,  I believe the person you described is MBell97 from the Dallas, Tx area.  Sounds like him.  He last posted in July, 2018.

How is things in OK?  Have you heard from OkieBob recently?  Hope the madam is doing better, she was feeling kind of low last account.  Have a good day!!
