General Discussion / Bug Identity
« on: July 10, 2018, 10:59:40 AM »
I saw these bugs yesterday in one plant of my Purple Hull Peas.  Today I found them in 2 plants of my PHP. They are very small, that's why I couldn't get a clearer picture.  If you look at the 2nd picture you can see how small they are, they could be juvenile bugs.

Homesteading Skills / Preserving Maque Choux
« on: June 24, 2018, 11:34:36 AM »
I am not a big fan of Maque Choux ( pronounced Mock Shoe) but my wife loves it.  She wants me to make a large quantity while we have all the fresh tomatoes , corn, onions and peppers.  She wants to put up some by either canning or freezing.

I am pretty sure it cannot be canned as we make it pretty dry.  Has anyone ever frozen maque choux and how was it;s texture when reheating, don't want corn soup.

Thanks for any help.

Any of you who use Weather Underground having problems getting on the website.  I haven't been able to get on to the website for over a week now with my computer.  I have no problems using the app on my cell phone, but it doesn't let you manage your preferences like the website.

I have been trying for a couple days to put pictures from a smart phone on the forum with no success.  I have an Android operating system and photos saved in Google Photos.

General Discussion / Question for Donald about Plant a row, Skip a row.
« on: September 25, 2016, 11:55:10 AM »
I am finally able to start working my garden.  I laying out my garden for plant a row skip a row.  My question is when laying out the garden how much wider do you lay out the center line of the row than your tiller width.

I presently lay my rows at 6' which is the width of the tiller, but I will have to have the row wider so when I  run the tiller between the rows it will not affect the roots of the plants in the rows.  One reason I am concerned is I use drip tape and I need to find the position for the valves for the rows.

Two weeks ago yesterday, I was fixing my morning coffee when the phone rang.  I turned to go answer it, and I had the most horrific pain you could ask for in my knee.  W waited till that Monday to see if the pain would go away and it didn't.

I went to the doctor that Monday morning and he told me that the x-rays showed signs of osteoarthritis.  Having had both hips replaced because of OA I have been sweating this for 2 weeks waiting to go to the orthopedist.

Yesterday I went and he said that even though there are signs of OA in the knee, it was not severe enough for knee replacement and that it was probably a sprain or tear.  He gave me a shot of cortazone in the knee and told me to take it easy for another week and come back.

By the time I took the hour ride home I could feel the difference.  This morning is the first time in 2 weeks I have been able to walk without the aid of a walker or cane.  I will follow his directions and not work the garden for another week even  though I drove out there this morning with the utv and the grass is taking over.

Happy Hour / Go to Top Button

On the old forum there was a button on the bottom of the page that you pressed to get to the top.  Am I missing a setting, or is that button no longer available.
