How often do you spray your tomatoes with copper?I usually spray once a week if it's dry and after a rain.Trouble is it's rained every day this week. We've got a storm coming out of the gulf late tonight or tomorrow.

There's a chance of a frost/freeze for three days in the 10 day forecast. It's been warm the last few days.It seems like we get that last frost and in two days it's 85 degrees.

General Discussion / Mistakes with my tomato seed
« on: March 18, 2018, 05:24:37 PM »
First mistake was ordering from burpee.I got sun gold and better boy from them.I told my wife that the seed looked old when we were plamting. We got around 30% germination out of both the sun golds and better boys.Second mistake was using regular bacto for starting seed.It gets hard and gummy.I've had really good results with bacto veggie in the past.In defense of the bacto I got good results with the rest of my tomatoes that didn't come from burpee.I did plant my seeds shallow.Lots of variables in seed starting.

Belgium Giant
German Johnson
Cherokee Purple
Cherokee Green
Cherokee Chocolate
Cherokee Cabon
Louisiana Gulf States
Red Brandywine
All raised in 25 gallon pots.I placed  them in a spot where they will get sun from sunrise until noon then filtered sun until sundown.I painted the pots white to reduce heat.I plan on putting 2 inches of mulch on them.Plants are up and growing.I'm not giving up.I do have 20 Better Boys,20 Big Beefs, and 20 Bella Rosa to plant in the soil for canning/slicing.

Where I live the heat and humidity is really bad.I love Brandywine,German Johnson, and Cherokee Purple but they just don't stand up to hot, humid conditions like hybrids.I'm thinking of not planting any this year.Thoughts?
