okay, i need to know something!....i got some kind of weed from using cow manure 3 years ago, and i have been fighting it ever has a seed pod at the top that kinda' reminds me of marge simpsons hairdo, and it has leaves that are can grow 5-6 feet tall and the stalk is loaded with some very painful have to wear gloves to pull it up if the plant is very big....a guy told me that it is something that was put in cow feed and now has spread everywhere....roundup kills it easily, but it will spread all over the place before you know it if you don't take measures to eliminate it

try pigweed or red root pigweed     see if that gets some pics that are close

thats a ram 2500 6.7l ramrod!!!!!!!!....  hahah!    the ford got stolen 2yrs ago!

Ok Toad......turn around that Ford and head back to my land and pick up some Strike and Tema seeds I have.
I am not planting the snakes this year either and am planting the above mentioned Strike and Tema.
Both are supposed to be stringless or nearly, so I'll find out soon.
Your dad came out today and sprayed.
I hope his overspray didn't coat my garden area too much.... :o
Seriously, I have 350 Tema and 500 Strike seeds if you want to try some.

Alright........  the racoons are in the corn again.

looking for ideas to keep em out.   firearms are a given if i can find em out in the corn but have yall had any success reducing their impact?

im toying with the idea of an electric fence set 6in off the ground.    they can be a lil smart for a cage trap.

thanx all!

I pull dirt to the plants until they start to die or too high to get tractor over the plants.  Be careful when they are flowering, that is when they are really growing and it is easy to cut the tubers.

gotcha!    i'm using a 53 super a so ive got 22in of clearance.   i'd LOVE to have plants too tall to cultivate!    good advice on the tubers!   thanx!

I hilled mine a couple of times before and right after they bloomed.  My issue was I ran out of dirt around them, I went to feed store and bought 2 bales of wheat straw to put around them.  That's one thing I learned this year, I will only use straw from now on.  It is so much easier and tou only have to do it once.

winner!!!  ty!    i am starting to run out of dirt a little too but i thought i'd take off the inside cultivators and work up some soil then bring it over.

awesome idea with the straw!

Fruit Trees / Re: Apple Trees in Alabama?
« on: May 20, 2018, 08:07:06 AM »
I will be cutting a few Silver Maples down soon that are dying. Im considering putting a couple fruit trees. How do Apple trees do in Central Alabama? Any varieties that do better than others?
Mostly I see peach, plum, pear, and figs. Not many apples.

morning!    i researched this last year.    it looks like most of the fruit trees available are applicable to my area in north alabama regarding chill hours.  the issue will be .......frost and freezing.    some of the earlier bloomers run the risk of getting frozen.  find the late bloomers and you'll be good to go.   personally i wet with granny smith fuji and grimes golden.
right now i'm fighting cedar apple rust.   educate yourself on spraying schedules as well........   its all about that dormant spraying oils!

hope that helps for your area in bama!   roll tide!

.......and so it begins.....

my first yr with apple trees has been met with a bumper crop of orange coagulous tentacled BALLS on my cedar trees.  needless to say there are a couple bright lil brown/yellow spots showing up on my granny smiths.  nothing yet on the crab apples, grimes golden, or fuji.
so whats the anti-fungal of choice.   i have some daconil.

thanx all!!!!!!

agree with bamafarmer.....   i've read limited news on the latest outbreak but i bet they may find that this outbreak is ecoli 0157...   thats the one that causes such bad probs and usually the cause of the meat recalls.

bifen IT......   spray it in the mound for 10sec or so using a stream to get it down deep.  next day theyve all crawled out and dead and dont build a new next 20ft away.

texas prepper2 idea.    has worked for me for a couple of years.   my local coop has bifen so it makes it easy.
