Title: Plastic Domes over Seedlings
Post by: Pepperman on March 21, 2018, 10:33:45 AM
Was wondering when is the best time to remove these domes.Do we take therm off as soon as seeds start or let them grow some? Don't want to loose my plants. Thank you for any advice.

I take them off as soon as I see them starting to poke through the soil. Ive let them on too long before and they get very tall and leggy and sometimes even stick fast to the plastic, dont ask how that happened.

I remove any covers as soon as my seedlings declare, peep, poke their heads out, or show up, LOL!

pepperman.  are they inside or outside?  i agree with gymgirl to remove once they get up...but please keep in mind your weather.  the domes can keep the little plants warm if your weather is not warm enough for them to be comfy in the open air yet.

I generally leave the domes on until the first true leaves are formed.

When I was doing my starts in the shed, I would leave the cover on till first true leaves appear.  I now do them inside and I am not as concerned because where I am doing them on an indoor upstairs balcony and it stays pretty warm up there but make sure all are germinated.
