A fence row memory
« on: December 07, 2018, 09:45:33 AM »
Dad bought this new in the spring of 53. We did lots of custom cutting at the going rate of $6 per acre. We had just pulled onto a pretty large field late on a Wednesday, during the night Dad got sick. We went to the field the next day but Dad couldn't make it, the fellow we were to cut for took him home. A WD Allis-Chalmers wasn't meant for comfort, I spent three hard long hour days with that combine beating at my butt. I had my 17th birthday about a week later. Years later that's me on that same old tractor mowing my field where we live today. The best part of this memory is My Dad and the man I cut for bragged on me around the community.
