Anyone have this recipe? Sweet (B&B) pickles
« on: June 01, 2018, 02:11:33 PM »
Back in the 70's my mother had a recipe that used those large jars of whole pickles you find in the grocery stores. She sliced those up and added cloves, etc to make the best B&B pickles you ever ate. Every yr at Christmas neighbors and friends( and mois) would beg her to make and give as gifts instead of anything else. I would sit and eat a ton of them.....so,so good! I have searched internet for this recipe that uses grocery store whole pickles to start with and can find nothing. Can anyone help???

RecipeSource   this site has lots of pickle recipes, hope you find what your looking for.  I am not able to post links on my tablet so you will need to search that site for "pickles" an it should pop up.

Thanks,Gopher.....But the one I remember started with already made grocery store pickles and went from there. I will keep searching-----maybe someone from my era back home will remember. however we were in college at the time, and preparing food was the very last thing on our minds!!

Rabbit, in your spare time (lol) you might want to make a batch of those pickles just to see if it is close to what you remember.  You can add spices to store bought pickles, as I often add pepper corns, or hot peppers just to jazz up the pickles to my liking.  Cloves is one of those spices I do not care for, so I would not be a fair judge.

If you're not putting jalapenos in your bread and butter pickles, you're missing something.

Those babies are not diabetic friendly!  Didn't see cloves in the recipe, but there might be some in the pickling spice?   I am glad you found your recipe.

Yes, Gopher....maybe as a teenager, I thought the pickling spice was cloves and just continued to always think those were in them. LOL..guarantee not diabetic friendly but were oh so good!
