Tomato tip for bird damage
« on: May 16, 2019, 09:08:42 PM »
Put red Christmas ornaments on you tomato plants before they ripen.  The birds will check out the red ornament, see it is not good to eat, and later when the tomatoes turn red the birds are less likely to peck them.  I believe it helps :)

Southwest Louisiana, Zone 9a- I have fig trees for sale, growing over 20 varieties, contact me for info.

My buddy that tries to get ripe tomatoes before me falls for the ol Christmas ornament trick every other year. Cant tell you the number of laughs I've gotten from hanging them off his tomato plants!

It works!!!!
I have done this for years with baseballs.......yes, baseballs painted red.
Where I used to live butted up to the baseball field of our local high school and I ended up with many homeruns that I painted and hung on stakes next to my toms.
The key is to get them out early before tomatoes ripen.
I put mine out when blooms first appear.
Thanks for the post
